General Reference.

Family Records Centre - the website for the FRC which holds records of births, deaths marriages, census returns and much more.  Website gives guides to locating information and how/when to visit the centre.

Public Record Office - there is a lot of information held at the PRO and thieir website gives information about how to find it and when to visit.

FamilySearch - the website of the LDS church, very useful but try to use it as a pointer in the right direction.  Always try to see the original source of their data. Also has the index of the 1881 census.

FreeBMD - really useful and getting more so all the time.

Ancestry.com - lots and lots of data (especially American) although it can prove expensive.  Has UK censuses from 1841 to 1901, indexed, searchable and best of all you can view the originals.

Genuki - the website for English and Irish genealogical information - lots of links to some really useful websites.

Familia - a directory of family history resources held in public libraries; as a librarian I really recommend them as a good place to start your research.  The public library in Horsham is awash with Caffyn information.
